THE SHARING HOUSE

35 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf - ph: (03) 9245 9800

Here I am again, second post on a roll talking about one of Paul Mathis' ventures. Sharing House is a new-ish addition to the buzzing food scene of South Wharf. The Modern Australian menu has been designed for sharing as the name says, with a number of large dishes serving 2+ people.

We thought it was the ideal place for a b-day celebration gathering a few of our friends.

The open plan restaurant features a large dismountable lego bar which is colourful and playful. The lego pieces kept us entertained through drinks.

There were 8 of us the night we visited; here are some of the dishes we ordered:

Complimentary Zealy Bay sourdough bread and olive oil

The bread was awesome as always, I love this bakery. I just didn't like the fact that it was up to us to slice it at the table - hard work for my friend in charge!

36 month aged Bellota Jamon Iberico 100gm ($30)

I only tried a small slice of the cured ham. Probably too pricey at $300 per kilo, but really tasty.

I was interested in trying the crab sandwich when I saw it on the menu, so ordered a couple of portions to share. We couldn't believe when the portions arrived - a serve was actually just half a sandwich! A couple more had to be ordered straight away.

Crab toast with horseradish and apple ($10 each triangle - 2 serves show above)

The sandwich itself was brilliant. Crunchy toast filled with fresh crab meat, complemented really well by the apple's slight acidity.

Crumbed Holy Goat piccolos, truffled honey ($13)

The crumbled goats cheese was fluffy and tasty. I loved the addition of truffled honey - perfect pairing for cheese.

We shared a few large dishes including a leg of lamb served with baby veggies and mashed potatoes. Tasty & hearty dish. The meat was cooked well and everybody seemed to like it.

Lamb Navarin, baby spring vegetables, mashed potato ($48)

The pork leg was my favourite dish for the night. The meat was falling off the bone and perfectly seasoned. There is no better combination than pork + apple and it was no different here. Sweet and sour heaven; I was happy to pay up for this one.

Slow roasted leg, Piglet chops, stuffed apple, roast potatoes, gravy ($74)

In sum, I liked the food and the service at Sharing House. By no means value for money, but a good place to  enjoy a shared meal with friends.
